WELCOME TO BLETCHINGLEY COMMUNITY CHOIR

Thinking of joining – some things it might be helpful for you to know?

The Choir started in February 2011 as part of an Arts Partnership Surrey funded “Singing Surrey” project,
supported by Tandridge Leisure and Arts Trust, this having been completed through the production of a CD
on which the choir is proud to have two tracks.

With only half of our inaugural members having previously sung in a choir and a steady stream of new members
joining since, we are led by the talented Philippa Berry who pushes us to new heights again and again..

Our focus to date has been on folk based and contemporary songs sung for our own pleasure, with the occasional public performance – this year we will be joining choirs from accross Surrey to sing at the Royal Albert Hall and then moving up to a performance at the Bletchingley Village Fayre in June.

There’s no audition, no need to be able to read music, no commitment required to attend every week and new
singers are encouraged to drop into one of our weekly sessions to see if it is for them.

Although Bletchingley based, meeting every Tuesday evening during term time from 7.15pm to 9.15pm at
Bletchingley Village Primary School, Coneybury, Bletchingley, RH1 4PP – two thirds of our current 40 + members come from
across East Surrey.

Membership arrangements are fairly informal and, although we have a small organising Committee, the choir is membership led with at least one Members’ Meeting taking place each term.

We are financiallyself-supporting with just a modest weekly subscription paid for each practice and performance
session attended (this can be paid monthly or termly in advance), these being used to pay for:

• 2 hours of professional singing leadership and coaching

• Musical arrangements to suit the voices and interests of members

• Administrations costs such as venue hire, insurance, stationery and printing

We are not accompanied by instruments or backing tracks, are interested in exploring other genres, and we are
eagerly awaiting the release of the “Singing Surrey” Project CD that includes two of our early songs.

If you are looking for a full two hours of escapism from the challenges of everyday life why not drop in - You can
be assured of a warm welcome.
